An 11 year old boy shot his own grandmother in a Tulsa, Oklahoma apartment:

An 11-year-old has been arrested in a shooting at a south Tulsa apartment complex near 79th Street and South Sheridan Avenue.

Police say a 50-year-old woman was shot in the back of the head around 4 p.m. Monday at Ridgemont Apartments.

Detectives told 2NEWS the woman's 11-year-old grandson was in the apartment at the time of the shooting.

Police say after the shooting, he ran out of the apartment while his grandmother was still conscious but in need of help. The victim called 911.

After questioning the boy, police arrested him on a complaint of shooting with intent to kill.

Oklahoma 2 year old shoots himself at home

Another toddler has gotten his hands on a gun at his Oklahoma home and shot himself. From an article:

A Broken Arrow toddler has died after an accidental shooting Tuesday night.

Officers responded just before 9 p.m. to a home near 41st and 209th East Avenue for what investigators say was the "accidental discharge" of a handgun.

Upon arrival, police found a 2-year-old boy who had shot himself.

The toddler was transported to an area hospital with a gunshot wound in the upper torso.

5 year old Oklahoma boy shoots himself and his father at Bass Pro shop

A 5 year old boy found his father's gun in a dressing room at the Bass Pro shop in Bricktown, Oklahoma and shot himself and his father. From an article:

Police told KOCO 5 the father and son were in Oklahoma City from their home near Amarillo, Texas, for the Jason Aldean concert. The little boy was playing in the store when he got a hold of his dad's gun.

According to Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow with the Oklahoma City Police Department, “Father and son were in the dressing room together. The son, who was 5- years-old, was apparently playing with dad's cellphone which was sitting there in the dressing room.”

Also in the dressing room and within the boy's reach was a loaded handgun.

"The dad had a concealed carry permit. He had taken his gun off, set it down," Wardlow said.

That's when, according to police, the boy grabbed the gun shooting himself in the hand and his dad in the leg. Both victims were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

3 Oklahoma kids shot someone because they were bored

We can hardly write about this one because it is so awful. In Oklahoma, 3 teen-aged boys decided they were bored so they shot someone on a jog past their house. From the article:

An Australian man attending an Oklahoma college on a baseball scholarship was shot and killed in what police described Monday as a random act of violence by three “bored” teenagers who decided to kill someone for the fun of it.

Christopher Lane, 22, of Melbourne, was found dead Friday while visiting the town of Duncan, where his girlfriend lives. Three boys, ages 15, 16, and 17, are in custody and face a court appearance Tuesday afternoon.

Christopher Lane, an Australian who was on a baseball scholarship at East Central University in Ada, Okla. Lane was in Duncan, Okla., visiting his girlfriend, when he was shot and killed Friday, Aug. 16, 2013.

Duncan Police Chief Danny Ford said Monday a woman called 911 after she saw Lane stagger across the road and fall to the ground in the south-central Oklahoma town of about 24,000 residents. Ford said Lane, who was staying with his girlfriend and her family in Duncan, had jogged past a home where the three boys were staying. He said the shooting appeared to be completely random.

Autopsy results are pending. Ford wouldn’t say how many times Lane was shot.

Ford said the 17-year-old has given a detailed confession to police, but that investigators have not been able to locate the murder weapon.

“They saw Christopher go by, and one of them said: ‘There’s our target,’” Ford said. “The boy who has talked to us said: ‘We were bored and didn’t have anything to do, so we decided to kill somebody.’

“They followed him in the car to that area, shot him in the back and drove off,” Ford said.

He said the district attorney is expected to file first-degree murder charges Tuesday, and all three will be arraigned at Stephens County District Court. It wasn’t known if the three will be charged as adults or as juveniles.

Sarah Harper, Lane’s girlfriend, told the Australian Broadcasting Corp. that the two had only returned to the United States from Australia last week.

“He didn’t deserve any of this,” Harper told the network. “It’s heartbreaking that it was such a random choice those guys made that drastically altered so many lives in the process.”

Lane attended East Central University in Ada, about 85 miles west of Duncan. He started 14 games at catcher last year and was entering his senior year.

“He was an absolute joy to coach,” baseball coach Dino Rosato said in a statement issued by the school. “Chris was an extremely well-respected teammate. ... He set a great example for all of his teammates, but more importantly for the younger players. He was a mature student-athlete who his teammates could look to for advice and support.

Ford told Oklahoma City television station KOCO that one of the teenagers said they shot Lane for “the fun of it.”

The chief told the Duncan Banner that police detained the three boys near a car and had retrieved a dismantled shotgun from the vehicle, but that Lane had been shot with another gun that had not yet been found. He said police have had “problems” with two of the three juveniles previously. He did not elaborate.

Peter Lane, the boy’s father, told Australian broadcasters there was no explanation for his son’s death.

“It is heartless and to try to understand it is a short way to insanity,” he said.

5 year old Oklahoma boy shot while sitting in car with his mother

An apparent drive-by shot and injured a 5 year old Oklahoma boy while he was sitting in his mother's car. From an article:

A 5-year-old Muskogee boy is in the hospital after he was shot in the back on Saturday night.

MPD Lt. Bryan Stark confirmed the boy is stable and no arrests have been made.

The shooting occurred about 11:30 p.m. at the Whispering Pines Apartments on Fairmont Street in Muskogee. The child was in a car with his mother when someone started shooting at the vehicle, police said.

The woman took her son to a hospital in Muskogee, and Muskogee EMS took the boy to Tulsa.

"A few inches in either direction [and] we may have had a dead child on our hands," MPD Cpl. Michael Mahan said.

Police said there was an argument that happened before the shooting.

News On 6 spoke to one witness who called 911 after he said he looked out his window and saw a man unload a handgun into a silver car.

"They got in the car and were pulling out and another guy walked out and started shooting a revolver at them," witness Jerry Johnson said. "I knew there was kids in the car. I feel sorry for the kids really, because you know they were the innocent victims in the whole deal."

Neighbors who live in the complex were shocked there was a shooting in their parking lot.

"I pretty much saw some muzzle flashes come out of a car that was about it," witness Michael Boggs said. "I've been here three years... never seen any of it."

Police are asking for any help trying to find the shooter, who fled after firing the gun. Investigators also are looking at surveillance video.

Oklahoma 15 year old shoots self thinking gun was unloaded

How often do we write about kids and teens playing with guns, thinking they are unloaded? This 15 year old Oklahoma teen put a gun in his mouth and shot it off, thinking it was unloaded. From an article:

A teenager remains in the hospital after investigators said he stuck a gun in his mouth and it accidentally went off.

The incident happened over the weekend in Logan County near Waterloo and Post Rd.

The Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the same of the 15-year-old victim.

The teen didn’t think the gun was loaded at the time of the shooting.

Officials responded to the call from a mobile home park on the 9600 block of E. Waterloo where a person was suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

When officers arrived, they found a 15-year-old boy who was seriously injured.

The boy was able to speak to officers and let them know he was not trying to kill himself.

At this point, officials are claiming this shooting an accident with potential of having suspicious circumstances.

However, after speaking with the teen and a friend who were together at the home when the gun went off, the sheriff’s office has no reason to believe this wasn’t an accident.

Logan County Sheriff’s Capt. Richard Stephens  said, “The other young man at the scene told him to make sure the gun was unloaded, the young man was so certain that it was already unloaded that he put it in his mouth and pulled the trigger.”

The teen’s condition is still critical Tuesday.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Sheriff’s office officials said it is against the law for an unsupervised juvenile to have a firearm.

Officials said there were two kids unattended at this trailer at the time of the shooting and investigators are trying to track down both sets of parents.

Authorities said supervision of children with guns is critical and they should be stored appropriately.

Two Oklahoma boys get hold of loaded revolver in home; one injured

Two boys, ages 10 or 11, were in a home in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, when they entered a closet where a .22-caliber revolver was kept by the father of one of the boys.  The gun was otherwise unsecured.  A bullet was still in the chamber, and the boys discharged it, injuring one boy in the hand and hip.  He is expected to survive.

Muskogee County Sheriff Charles Pearson said the parents thought the gun was empty. It was up in a closet when a 10 or 11-year-old got a hold of it and started pulling the trigger, not knowing there was a bullet inside the chamber. 

FOX23 reached out to the families of both kids. They declined to comment, only saying the boys are close friends and this was an accident. 

Pearson says it's an accident they see a lot of with families that have guns in the home. He said the boy was playing with a .22-caliber revolver. Pearson said the father told him he thought he dumped the bullets out of the gun. However, one bullet remained. The bullet went through the victim's hand and lodged in his hip. Deputies are ruling this as an accident. 

Pearson is advising people to double check their weapons to make sure they're unloaded but also says they should put a lock on the weapon.

15 year old Oklahoma girl dead after accidental gun discharge

This gun may have had a "manufacturing defect" when it discharged while on a kitchen counter, fatally injuring a 15 year old girl on May 26th. From an article:

A 15-year-old LeFlore County girl died from injuries she sustained in an accidental shooting in her home Sunday, according to Chief Deputy Kendall Morgan.

LeFlore County Sheriff Rob Seale said Saylor Slone Martine and her 12-year-old sister were handling a .380-caliber semi-automatic handgun when one of the girls placed the gun on a counter. When the 15-year-old reached down to get her cell phone, Seale said the gun discharged.

Seale said the girl sustained life-threatening injuries and was immediately flown to a hospital in Tulsa where she later died.

The incident occurred in their home in the Tucker Community, according to Seale.

Seale said the girl’s mother was outside when the accident happened. He said an investigation is ongoing but it appears to be an accidental shooting.

“It looks pretty clear-cut accidental,” Seale said.

15-year old Oklahoma boy shoots self to death in school bathroom

A 15-year old ninth-grader, Triston Stephens, brought a loaded gun to school, in Coweta, Oklahoma, went into the bathroom, and shot himself to death.

The ninth-grade boy died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound about 8:35 a.m., Superintendent Jeff Holmes confirmed at an afternoon news conference.  

The school was placed on immediate lockdown, and police arrived within seconds, he said.  

Police Lt. Donnie Krumsiek said the student died of a single gunshot wound just as the first-hour classes had started. Police don't think anyone else was in the restroom at the time.  

"Unfortunately, a life was lost, but it could have been a lot worse," Krumsiek said, referring to other school shootings in which multiple people have been killed.  

The state Medical Examiner's Office identified the boy as Triston Stephens.  

"According to his principal and counselors, he was a very fine young man," Holmes said.  

Authorities don't know how the teenager carried the gun into the building or where he kept it, Holmes said. He also said they did not know how or where he obtained the gun.  

Krumsiek said the school was not equipped with metal detectors.  

Police have not received any information indicating that Stephens had been bullied, and they are continuing to investigate the circumstances of his death, he said.

At a candlelight vigil Monday night just outside Coweta High School, students, parents and area residents wept openly, still in shock over the tragedy that hit too close to home.  

"I'm sad and depressed," said freshman Jeremy Summers, who described Stephens as "a good friend" who participated in activities just as his peers did. "He was a happy guy. Triston would always make people laugh."  

Griffin Qualls, a freshman, said Stephens appeared to be well-liked and that no one saw any indication that the boy would take his own life. 

It is not known where the boy got the gun and ammo.

Convenience store clerk shot multiple times in robbery by four teen boys

Four teen boys entered a convenience store in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and shot the clerk multiple times in the robbery.  The boys escaped with cigarettes and alcohol.

The clerk did not immediately die and was taken to the hospital.  His current status is unknown.

Two of the boys were armed with handguns.  All four teen boys have been arrested.  Three of the boys were age 17.  The fourth was 14.

Police Chief Joe Prentice said one of his officers came to the store around 2:45 a.m. to get something to drink, when the clerk ran outside and told him he had been shot. The patrol officer had just missed the robbery. 

"I would estimate a minute, maybe a minute and-a-half, after they exited the store the officer pulled into the lot," Prentice said. 

Police said four males robbed the Kum-N-Go at 4th Street and Kern Avenue.  

Prentice said two of the four males had handguns when they entered the store and one of them physically attacked the clerk and then shot him several times. 

"I did not view the wounds personally, but it's my understanding the majority of his wounds are in the waist and below area. I think he took one round to the torso," Prentice said. 

Early Wednesday afternoon, police announced they had arrested 17-year-old Jeffrey Edwards, 17-year-old Johnnie Ellies, and another 14-year-old on anticipated charges of robbery with a firearm and shooting with intent to kill. 

A fourth suspect, Jerry Thompson, 17, was arrested Wednesday afternoon and will be booked in the Okmulgee County Jail on complaints of robbery with a firearm and shooting with intent to kill, as well. 

Police say the victim is 21-year-old Jacob Rogers.

It hasn't been released where the teens got their guns and ammo.

Oklahoma teen stopped from committing school mass shooting

A teen Bartlesville, Oklahoma, named Sammie Eaglebear Chavez, was caught trying to plan a mass shooting at his high school.  He apparently had firearms and was planning on trapping students in the auditorium, as well as placing bombs at doors to kill entering police.

Reportedly, a student confirmed to authorities that he had been in the cafeteria on Dec. 12 and that Chavez "tried to recruit other students to assist him with carrying out a plan to lure students into the school auditorium where he planned to begin shooting them after chaining the doors shut," the affidavit states. 

Chavez reportedly further said that if the students that were assisting him did not do as they were supposed to do that "he would not hesitate to kill them and/or himself." 

Police say he additionally said that he planned to "place bombs by the doors so when the police arrived he would detonate the bombs, killing the police as they entered the building." 

Authorities contend that Chavez had been attempting to obtain a map or diagram of the building. Chavez had reportedly told a teacher that "he had recently purchased a Colt .45 handgun and spent the weekend shooting it." 

Police further allege that Chavez had performed Internet searches for a ".22 caliber rifle on a machine gun platform" on school computers as recent as Nov. 30, as well as information on "how to build pipe bombs" and information on "the Columbine High School Massacre." 

Authorities reportedly located Chavez around 4:50 a.m. Friday at a residence on Adeline in west Bartlesville. He was taken into custody at that time and a search was conducted of the residence.

3-year old Oklahoma boy finds loaded gun while visiting home and shoots self to death

A 3-year old boy was visiting a home in Guthrie, Oklahoma, when he found a loaded, unsecured gun in the bedroom.  He handled the gun and then unintentionally shot himself in the head, dying from the wound.

No charges will be filed.

A 3-year-old Oklahoma child is dead after he accidentally shot himself in the head with a gun he found in a Highway Patrolman’s home.

The Oklahoman reports that Ryder Rozier was visiting the home of his aunt and uncle in Guthrie on Saturday when he managed to get hold of a gun and shoot himself in the head. The uncle has been identified as 37-year-old Oklahoma Highway Patrolman Ian Rozier.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the weapon that fired the fatal shot was not Rozier’s service pistol. No criminal charges are expected to be filed.

12-year old Oklahoma boy gets family gun and shoots 11-year old sister

Near Shawnee, Oklahoma, a 12-year old boy and his 11-year old sister were playing with their family's unsecured, loaded handgun when the boy unintentionally shot his sister in the stomach.

Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office tells KRMG the shooting happened at a Twin Lakes home near Shawnee. 

The girl and her 12-year-old brother were playing with a handgun when the brother accidentally shot his sister in the stomach.  

She was flown to a hospital in Oklahoma City and her condition is unknown.  Sheriff's office said the brother wasn't harmed during the shooting. 

According to another article, the girl was in critical condition and entering surgery.  Their parents were not home at the time of the shooting, but rather driving home from work.  The gun was a small-caliber handgun, and the boy did not know it was loaded.

12-year old Oklahoma girl shoots home invader

In a rare example of justified defense by a child, a 12-year old girl was alone in her Bryan County, Oklahoma home when a stranger rang the doorbell, then went around back and kicked in the back door.  She called her mom, then with her mom's advise, took the family gun and hid in a closet, calling 911.  When the intruder started to open the door to the room, she shot through the door, wounding him before he fled.  The intruder was captured by police just down the road.

12-year old Oklahoma boy injured in drive-by, as 11-year old brother saves him

Three boys were getting ready to play games in their Oklahoma City home when shots came through the walls from outside.  One boy, age 12, was injured in the foot.  His 11-year old brother, John Jordan, then pushed him to the floor, likely saving his life.

The 12-year-old boy was hit in the foot, but it could have been much worse. Police said somebody shot several times into an apartment complex Wednesday night on Lyrewood Lane near Wilshire Boulevard and Rockwell Avenue. 

The boy did not want to speak on camera, but KOCO Eyewitness News 5's Michael Seiden talked to his brother. John Jordan pointed out where bullet holes dotted his bedroom wall, ceiling and bathroom. 

"We were in a room getting ready to play some games, and we heard two shots. At first, we didn't know what it was," Jordan said. 

Jordan added that he and two of his brothers were in the bedroom when they heard at least five shots in all, one of which struck his brother in the foot. Jordan's brother will miss the rest of his middle school football season while he recovers from his injuries. 

"We thought my big brother was joking when he said he got hit in the foot," Jordan said. "My little brother almost got hit, but I picked him up and threw him on the floor so he wouldn't get hit."

3-year old Oklahoma boy wounded in leg when finds loaded, unsecured gun

A 3-year old boy was in the care of his grandmother's boyfriend when he found the man's .22-caliber handgun and shot himself in the leg.  He is in the hospital in serious condition.

Emergency responders were called to the 4100 block of East 1st Street at about 12:30 p.m. and found a 3-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the lower leg. 

They say the child was in the care of his grandmother when the injury occurred. Her boyfriend had a .22-caliber revolver at the home, according to Corporal Ron Clark with the Tulsa Police Department. 

"Her boyfriend was in a room with the child at the back of the residence," Corporal Clark said at the scene. "We believe it was an accidental discharge of a handgun." 

The boyfriend told officers that he bought the revolver at a Tulsa flea market last weekend and did not believe it was operable. 

"It's a lesson to be learned," Clark said.

Concealed firearms carrier leaves gun in elementary classroom

A man in Moore, Oklahoma, was assisting his relative, an elementary teacher, with her computer.  His concealed handgun fell out and was left on a chair after he left, and he didn't realize until media reported on it.

No arrest has been made.

Investigators say the relative was assisting a Plaza Towers Elementary teacher in repairing a computer at the school at 852 Southwest 11th Street in Moore over the weekend. The relative, who is licensed to carry the gun, told police he did not realize it had fallen out of his pocket until he saw reports on the news. 

Police say the owner of the gun contacted them. No one has been arrested, but officers say they will turn their investigation over to the district attorney. 

The elementary school was locked down Monday morning when a teacher found the gun on a chair in a classroom. All the students were taken to the school's cafeteria while police searched the building for other weapons. 

No one was injured in the incident. Several parents arrived at the school and checked their children out for the day after the lockdown ended.

13 year old Oklahoma boy shoots himself at school

Gun suicides don't often make the news. But this one did because it happened right on the school grounds of an Oklahoma middle school. From the article:

A 13-year-old Oklahoma boy shot himself to death Wednesday in front of classmates after showing up at his junior high school dressed as the super-villain Two Face from the Batman series.

The student, Cade Poulos, used a handgun to commit suicide in a crowded hallway at Stillwater Junior High School, cops said.

“It doesn’t appear that anyone else was in danger or threatened,” said Stillwater Police Capt. Randy Dickerson, adding that the school and a nearby elementary school were put on lockdown as a precaution.

Dickerson said a school resource officer heard the gunshot just before the 8 a.m. school bell sounded and found the red-headed eighth-grader dead in a hallway.

Cops were investigating where the student obtained the gun.

Shocked classmates told KOCO-TV that Wednesday was Superhero Dress-up Day, but could not explain why Poulos came to school as Two Face, the ally-turned-nemesis of Batman in the DC Comics series.

They were all lucky that this boy didn't decide to shoot other students along with himself. According to the article, law enforcement is investigating where this boy got his gun. Most gun deaths are due to suicide.

UPDATE:  According to another article, the boy's name was Cade Poulos.  It is suspected that he killed himself because he had been bullied.

17-year old Tulsa girl shot and killed; mistaken for gang member

Kayla Ferrante, age 17

17-year old Kayla Ferrante had just graduated high school and was driving.  She and her boyfriend were driving to her home, and were only yards away from the house when gunfire hit their car, hitting her in the back.  She died soon after in the hospital.

The shooter, Edwin Jermaine Daniels, had mistaken the car for that of a rival gang member.

Daniels and another man, Michael Darnell Hilliard, are also convicted of an armed home invasion robbery.

Kayla Ferrante, 17, graduated from her Tulsa, Okla., high school Friday, a year early in order to jump-start a career working with special-needs students. Her family said this was her passion.

After a family celebration Saturday, she went to a friend's house and later that night headed for home with her boyfriend Neikko Perez driving the car.

When the couple were just a half block from Ferrante's house, shots rang out that Perez thought were "really loud fireworks."

The bullet that hit Kayla pierced the license plate on the back of the car, tore through the trunk and hit her in the back before passing through her. Police later determined the bullets were fired from a high-powered rifle.

"I see a few guys a couple of houses down running inside and I started yelling for help because my girlfriend said, 'Neikko, call 911. I can't breathe,'" Perez told "Good Morning America." "I ran to her side of the door, opened it and I looked at her and I saw that she was bleeding."

About five minutes later, police and medical personnel arrived.

"They told me to get back and they didn't want me near," Perez said. "They started questioning me right after." 

Ferrante was rushed to the hospital where she died during surgery, police said.

By the time Perez got to the hospital, he said, "It was too late. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do, to hear that my girlfriend had passed."

3-year old Tulsa girl shot in foot while father pursues car thieves

A man was driving in Tulsa, Oklahoma with his 3-year old daughter in the car when he spotted a vehicle of his that had been stolen the day before.  He followed the vehicle while calling 911, but the car thieves noticed him and shot at him, hitting the daughter in the foot.  Three of the thieves were caught.  The fourth is still at large with the gun.  The girl will be okay, since the wound was a graze wound.

The owner of the stolen car was driving with his young daughter Wednesday, when he recognized his car.

Police say the man called 911 as he followed the stolen car.

Shortly after that, police say the man called back saying his three-year-old daughter had been shot inside the car.

Police believe the suspects in the stolen car realized they were being followed and shot at the victim's Honda Accord.

"Last couple days, we've seen people, what happens when individuals have guns and things like that. It turns into a very violent and dangerous situation," said Leland Ashley, of the Tulsa Police Department.
