A 5 year old North Carolina boy found the service gun of his father and shot and injured himself. From an article:

A 5-year-old son of a deputy in North Carolina is recovering after he shot himself with his father’s service weapon over the weekend.

Anson County Sheriff’s office said that the boy found the handgun at around 1:15 on Saturday. One round struck the top of the child’s left ear, and he was taken to Levine’s Children’s Hospital in Charlotte.

His father was reportedly at home at the time of the shooting, but he was in another room.

WSOC reported that the deputy, who was identified as Josh Beam, was put on administrative leave. Bream is a 10-year veteran of the department, and lost his bid to be Anson County sheriff in the Democratic primary earlier this month.

5 month old North Carolina baby shot while sitting in car seat

A North Carolina man accidentally shot a 5 month old baby while she was sitting in her car seat on a porch. From an article:

Police say it appears that Arin Tavon Futrell of Durham shot the gun accidentally, firing one bullet that hit the girl in a hand and a leg. The girl was in a car seat on the porch when she was hit, said police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.

She was taken to a hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, Michael said.

Futrell, 21, was charged with felony negligent child abuse resulting in bodily injury. He was also arrested on outstanding warrants alleging attempted breaking and entering and conspiracy to commit breaking and entering.

16-year old North Carolina girl implicated in shooting

18-year old Raequan Dupree Rouse was found shot to death in Wilmington, North Carolina.  Police have now arrested 16-year old Dominique Olivia Gibbs for the shooting, which was apparently gang-related.

From an article:

Rouse was shot in the 600 block of North 10th Street in an act of violence Wilmington Police Department Chief Ralph Evangelous said "clearly was a gang issue." 

A bystander who witnessed the shooting and called 911 said about 15 shots were exchanged. 

The 18-year-old arrived at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in a private vehicle and was pronounced dead a short time later. 

Rouse had been shot 12 times, according to the 911 recording. 

When police officers arrived on the scene, according to the 911 records, they found shell casings in front of 605 S. 10th St. and a blood trail "all the way down the sidewalk and around the corner" of Campbell Street.

The article does not say how Dominique got her gun or ammo.

17 month old North Carolina child shot at home by 3 year old sibling

A 3 year old North Carolina child climbed onto a dresser and found a gun, then accidentally shooting his 17 month old sister.  From the article:

 A 17-month-old girl is in the hospital and is expected to be OK after she was shot by her 3-year-old brother with their father's gun.

The father, Justin Carper, writes a parenting column for a local newspaper.

Police have not arrested or charged Carper with any crimes as of Thursday night.

Carper is a contributing writer for the Shelby Star. He's not a paid employee but he does write a parenting column.

The 17-month-old girl was shot in Patterson Springs, according to an investigator with the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Department.

The child is expected to survive.

The shooting occurred on Jenny Drive on Thursday morning. 

The family was doing renovations inside the home and the 9 mm gun was on a dresser.

The little boy climbed the dresser, got the gun and shot his sister.

The bullet did not hit any bones or major organs.

10 year old North Carolina boy dead of self inflicted gunshot injury

A 10 year old in North Carolina died from a self inflicted gunshot wound. From an article:

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said a 10-year-old boy who attended Providence Day School died after a self-inflicted gunshot wound Wednesday morning.

The shooting happened Wednesday morning at a home in the 4600 block of Connecting Road near South Boulevard in Charlotte.

A CMPD source told NBC Charlotte that the father and 12-year-old sister were at home during the time of the shooting. The father was in the shower during the shooting. 

The boy shot himself in the head, according to the source.

9 year old North Carolina boy dies of injuries suffered while riding in his car

A 9 year old boy has died of gunshot injuries suffered while he was riding in his mother's car. From an article:

A boy shot along with his mother in their car last weekend has died of his injuries.

Jaedan Sharpe, 9, son of 31-year-old Lakeisha Holloway, was shot on Jan. 4 in a sports utility vehicle on Lucas Drive. The Durham Police Department on Friday confirmed that the boy had died.

His death marks the first homicide of the year for Durham.

Callers told 911 operators that a shooter, on foot, fired as many as six shots into the vehicle. Holloway then drove a few blocks away to get help. The suspect fled.

Kids should be able to ride in their parents' cars without fear of being shot.

3 year old North Carolina child shot by another 3 year old child

Two 3 year old children found an unsecured gun in a North Carolina home. One of them shot and injured the other. From an article:

A 3-year-old girl was taken to the hospital after apparently being accidentally shot by another 3-year-old child Tuesday afternoon, Randolph County deputies said.

The incident was reported around 12:45 p.m. at a home on Cameron Circle in Asheboro. The condition of the child wasn't immediately known.

An adult woman told deputies she was cleaning when she heard a shot fired from another room. The woman entered the other room, where children were playing, and found the girl shot.

4 year old North Carolina child accidentally shoots himself

A 4 year old North Carolina boy found a gun at his home and shot and killed himself:

Fayetteville police said officers responded to 1608 Stanford Court around 10:45 a.m. in reference to a child being shot. Upon arrival, emergency responders performed life-saving techniques on Killian Perez but the he was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation revealed the boy located and retrieved a loaded handgun that was stored on the top of a refrigerator. Police said the child then was able to manipulate the gun and shot himself.

The father has been arrested for involuntary manslaughter.

2 year old North Carolina toddler shoots herself with gun found in home

A 2 year old North Carolina girl found a gun in her home and shot herself. She died from the injuries. From an article:

A 2-year-old girl is dead after accidentally shooting herself with a handgun inside a North Carolina home, according to multiple reports.

Police said the girl, who was nicknamed "Coco," found a loaded handgun and that it discharged, local NBC affiliate WNCN-TV reported. She was at the home with her aunt and grandmother at the time.

15-year old North Carolina boy injured in school shooting by fellow student

A 15-year old boy was shot and injured by an 18-year old fellow student at Carver High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Police say Christopher Lamont Richardson Jr. was arrested Friday and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of firearm on school property, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and discharging a firearm within city limits. 

Officers responded to a report of a shooting around 2:30 p.m. Friday at Carver High School in Winston-Salem. Police say the school had been conducted a fire drill when a school resource officer heard shots fired. 

A 15-year-old student was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

11-year-old unintentionally shoots and kills her 19-year-old stepfather

19-year-old Bryan Reno, of Cleveland County, North Carolina had just bought a handgun through a private sale. According to a news report:

On Friday evening, while his 35-year-old wife Pamela slept, Reno showed the gun to his 11-year-old stepdaughter. At one point, Reno removed the magazine slide from the firearm and handed the .380-caliber gun to her to examine.
"During the course of her looking at the firearm, it's apparent that she pulled the trigger of the firearm and it discharged," said the sheriff. "It just appears he failed to check the chamber to make sure there was not a bullet in the chamber, and it turned fatal."

Reno died at the scene from a gunshot would to the chest.

17-year old boy killed and 2-year old girl injured during apparent home invasion in North Carolina

19-year old Kashif Antoine Lang was at his home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, when a group of young men attempted to get into the home through windows.  One of those young men was 17-year old Jashun Ladonte Ingram.

Lang opened fire, hitting and killing Ingram.

He also fired on a car in his driveway.  In the car was a 2-year old girl, who was wounded in the leg.

Lang was arrested.  The girl is expected to survive.

Kashif Antoine Lang, 19, is accused of shooting and killing 17-year-old Jashun Ladonte Ingram at Lang’s home at 4144 Macarthur Street around 2:15 p.m. Monday. 

Police said Ingram and several others were involved in a disturbance with Lang and others in the home. 

Police said Ingram and his group were breaking home’s windows and trying to get inside at the time of the shooting. 

Winston-Salem police said Ingram was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency workers and firefighters responded. Police said he suffered multiple gunshot wounds. 

Police said a 2-year-old girl was shot in the leg while inside a Chrysler Pacifica in the driveway. Investigators removed the vehicle, full of bullet holes, from the scene. 

Police said the young female victim is expected to recover after being taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. 

Officers said they detained and identified several people inside and outside the residence until the scene was secured. 

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division have assumed the ongoing investigation. Ingram’s autopsy is pending. 

Lang was charged with one count of voluntary manslaughter and one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

17 year old North Carolina boy shoots himself playing with guns

A 17 year old North Carolina boy is dead after he and some friends were "playing with guns". This occurred just a few days after his high school graduation.

"It's just a senseless tragedy that should never happen," said Skyler's grandmother, Judy Mincey.

The details of the incident are still under investigation, but a Blount County Sheriff's Office spokesperson did say the incident appears to be an accident.

However, the occurrence confused Skyler's grandfather, Jerry Mincey, who said the high school senior had experience with guns.

"We got conflicting stories that they were playing with guns, playing a war game," he said.

Boring just graduated from Heritage High School.  He was the co-captain of the wrestling team and planned to attend Pellissippi State in the Fall.

2 year old North Carolina boy shoots self in the mouth with father's gun

It's happened again. A two year old boy found a gun in his North Carolina home and shot himself in the mouth. He is still alive but with injuries:

The shooting happened around lunchtime at 711 Spring Valley Road just outside Asheboro city limits.

The boy suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, and his condition is improving at Brenner Children's Hospital, Randolph County deputies said.

The boy broke a mandible bone in his jaw. Capt. Derrick Hill said it was a miracle the shot missed vital blood vessels and the spinal column.

The boy was alone in his parents' bedroom when picked up an improperly locked .45-caliber pistol, deputies said. The boy put the gun in his mouth while playing with it and pulled the trigger.

The boy's parents and siblings were home at the time of the shooting, and his father rushed him to Randolph Hospital, deputies said.

Deputies identified the boy's parents as Jose Palencia and Agelica Rameriez, both of Asheboro.

Charges are pending in the case, and the investigation was still ongoing as of Monday afternoon, Hill said.

10-year old North Carolina boy shot and killed by father cleaning gun

10-year old Christopher Stanlane, Jr., was watching TV while his father, Christopher Stanlane, Sr.,
sat behind him on the couch, cleaning his gun, in their Fairmont, North Carolina home.  That's when his father uninentionally discharged the weapon, striking the boy in the back of the head and killing him.

No charges have been filed.

Robeson County deputies say 34-year-old Christopher Stanlane was on the couch in his Fairmont home wiping down the gun around 4 p.m. Sunday when it fired. 

Investigators say the boy was sitting in front of his father watching television and was struck in the head. Paramedic declared him dead at the home. 

No charges have been filed, and deputies are still investigating the shooting.

According to another article, the gun was a 12-gauge shotgun:

Christopher Stanlane Sr., 34, was cleaning his 12-gauge shotgun while sitting on the couch in the family's home, Thompson said. 

Stanlane had the butt of the gun sitting on the floor, Thompson said. 

The younger Stanlane was sitting on the floor, watching television, in front of his father, Thompson said. 

"He (Stanlane Sr.) said he was wiping the side of the gun down and the gun went off and shot the son in the head," Thompson said. 

Stanlane's wife was in another room and called 911, Thompson said.

16-year-old killed in unintentional shooting

Two brothers, ages 14 and 16, were playing with a shotgun at their home in Lumberton, North Carolina.  According to reports:

"The gun did not fire initially," said a spokesman from the Sheriff's Office. "However, as the two brothers continued to play with the shotgun, it fired and struck the 16-year-old in the chest area."

The victim was unresponsive at the scene and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police are still investigating the incident.

14-year old North Carolina boy killed by mother in murder/suicide; others injured

Maurice Edmonds, II, age 14

Sandra Palmer, 47, snapped and used her gun to kill her son, 14- year old Maurice Edmonds II, at their home in Greensboro, North Carolina.  She also shot and injured her 18-year old daughter, Danielle Imani Jamison, and her partner and the boy's father, 46-year old Maurice Eugene Edmonds.  Palmer then turned the gun on herself and committed suicide.

The wounded father had run out of the home, calling for help, before collapsing.

Motive is unknown.

Maurice Edmonds II, 14, and Sandra Palmer, 47, were both found inside the home with gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene. 

Danielle Imani Jameison, 18, was also shot inside the home. She was taken to Moses Cone Hospital where she is currently listed in critical condition. 

Maurice Eugene Edmonds, 46, was found in the driveway suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Moses Cone Hospital in “guarded” condition and on Tuesday was listed in “fair condition.” 

Police said Jameison, 18, is Sandra Palmer’s daughter. 

Edmonds, 14, is the son of Maurice Edmonds and Sandra Palmer. 

Edmonds and Palmer were not married. ... 

“He was a very funny person, outgoing he always had a certain energy with him,” said Reggie Davis, referring to his friend Edmonds. 

Northwest students were told about the tragedy Monday afternoon right before they were dismissed for the day. The school’s principal, Rich Thomae, says the students are taking it hard.  

“He was a wonderful student and this is a tragic loss for our school, community. Our teachers and students are going to need a lot of support over the next couple days,” Thomae said.

18-month old North Carolina boy unintentionally shot in the arm

An 18-year old boy was unintentionally shot in the arm, in Bessemer City, North Carolina.

A toddler from Bessemer City has been hospitalized after he was shot in the arm. 

Gaston County EMS officials were called to a home just after 8 p.m. Friday after getting a call that a child had been shot in the left arm. The 18-month-old boy was taken to a hospital, and there was no update on his condition. 

Investigators say they think the shooting was an accident. Police say the boy was home with his father and a sibling when the shooting happened. 

Authorities have not said who owned the gun that was used.

4-year old North Carolina boy shot in head during home invasion

4-year old Jose Santiso Vargas was in his trailer home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, when someone broke into his home and tried to get into his room, then shot through the door, striking the boy in the head.  Jose's father, a migrant worker, chased off the invader.

Jose underwent surgery and likely will survive.

Jose spent most of last week in intensive care at UNC Hospital and was in stable condition Thursday morning. His head was wrapped in gauze and bandages, and nurses were doing their best to make sure his frail body stays comfortable at the beginning of what is likely a long recovery.  

Investigators say someone tried to force his way into the home off Plantation Lane outside Clinton about 10:30 p.m. Friday. When the man couldn't make entry into a bedroom, he fired into the door and the bullet hit the boy. 

Jose's father chased the gunman, who jumped into a waiting vehicle and fled.

13 year old North Carolina girl shot by 15 year old boy

Neighbors are still talking about the shooting of a 13 year old girl by a 15 year old boy in a "peaceful neighborhood" in Durham, North Carolina. From an article about the shooting:

Police say they are still trying to determine what led to the shooting. Neighbors wonder how a 15-year-old managed to get hold of a firearm. Kayla, the fourth-grader, said the boy was playing with the gun. “They have guns in the house,” she said. “I seen about 10 in the closet.”

The shooting is the second involving youth in less that a month. On Oct. 16, police say Nelson Pinto, a 17-year-old who lives on the same street, shot a 68-year-old man, Kenneth Harris, while he was doing yard work at his home in the 2100 block.

Harris and other neighbors say the street, with its modest, working-class homes and well-kept lawns, had been peaceful until recently. They think gang activity is trying to take root in the East Durham neighborhood. Two oak trees on opposite ends of the street had been recently spray-painted with gang graffiti. Christina Jones, who lives next door to Harris, said her husband used an ax to chop the bark off the tree in their front yard to remove the gang scrawl. Someone used dark brown paint to cover blue marking on the other tree.

Harris said the Thursday shooting caught him by surprise. “It was 3:30 in the afternoon,” said a recovering Harris. “Two girls walked past and then this boy behind them walked past my mailbox. A white van drove up, and somebody stuck a gun out the window and shot six times. But they didn’t hit the boy. They hit me.”

Harris rolled up the blue shirt he was wearing to display bullet wounds in his arm near his elbow and another that grazed his back. Police have said that Harris was not the intended target. “The kid came by and apologized,” Harris said. “He said, ‘They weren’t shooting at you. They were shooting at me.’ ”

That youngster, Harris said, was the same boy arrested Thursday in the girl’s shooting.
