10-year old North Carolina boy shot and killed by father cleaning gun

10-year old Christopher Stanlane, Jr., was watching TV while his father, Christopher Stanlane, Sr.,
sat behind him on the couch, cleaning his gun, in their Fairmont, North Carolina home.  That's when his father uninentionally discharged the weapon, striking the boy in the back of the head and killing him.

No charges have been filed.

Robeson County deputies say 34-year-old Christopher Stanlane was on the couch in his Fairmont home wiping down the gun around 4 p.m. Sunday when it fired. 
Investigators say the boy was sitting in front of his father watching television and was struck in the head. Paramedic declared him dead at the home. 
No charges have been filed, and deputies are still investigating the shooting.
According to another article, the gun was a 12-gauge shotgun:

Christopher Stanlane Sr., 34, was cleaning his 12-gauge shotgun while sitting on the couch in the family's home, Thompson said. 
Stanlane had the butt of the gun sitting on the floor, Thompson said. 
The younger Stanlane was sitting on the floor, watching television, in front of his father, Thompson said. 
"He (Stanlane Sr.) said he was wiping the side of the gun down and the gun went off and shot the son in the head," Thompson said. 
Stanlane's wife was in another room and called 911, Thompson said.
