16 year old Oregon boy shot to death while sitting in car

A 16 year old boy was found shot to death in a car in his driveway in an Oregon community:

Officials said the 16-year-old, Lazaro Lizandro Fuentes Burgos, was shot while he sat in a 1994 Nissan Sentra. Neighbors heard shots around 1:40 a.m., but police weren’t notified of the shooting for about an hour.

Burgos lived in Southeast Portland’s Lents neighborhood and has no known gang ties or drug ties. The motive for this shooting is not known, officials said.

Sgt. Pete Simpson, a Portland Police Bureau spokesman, said neighbors in the 5800 block of Northeast 59th called 911 around 3 a.m. after finding the teen inside a parked vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

15 year old California boy shot and killed

A 15 year old California teen was shot and killed near his home:

Family and friends of 15-year-old Luis Angel Zavaleta-Rios are devastated after police say he was shot and killed on the sidewalk in front of a park just one block from his home.

His father says many friends had just attended his son's 15th birthday party on Friday. And were shocked to learn of his death Thursday morning when they showed up for class at Merced Valley Community School.

About two dozen of his friends and classmates stopped by the park to leave flowers and light candles in Zavaleta's honor. They say the freshman was a good student who was passionate about construction. He also loved the sport of boxing, and was a member of a competitive club downtown.

Connecticut teen and half brother shot near a school

One boy is dead and his half brother is injured in a shooting outside of a school in Hamden, Connecticut. From an article:

Two teens were shot, one killed, shortly before 9 p.m. Monday near Butler and Lilac streets, police spokesman Officer David Hartman said.

Police say officers were dispatched to the area at 8:56 p.m. and the male victims were found on a sidewalk adjacent to Lincoln Basset Elementary School. The two were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where one older teen was pronounced dead at 9:28 p.m.

Sources have identified the homicide victim as Taijhon Washington, 17. The injured victim has been identified as a 16-year-old, also of Hamden. He was listed in critical condition early today.

Hamden Public Schools interim Superintendent of Schools Christopher Melillo said grief counselors have been providing services at Hamden High School and Hamden Middle School. Counselors have been sent to the middle school, Melillo said, because students there once knew the victims.

“We’re very sad about this,” Melillo said. “It does impact everyone in the community, We’re here to support the family in their time of grief and support all of the students and staff who were impacted.”

Mellio said Washington and the injured victim were half-brothers. He said though Washington was not a current student of Hamden High School, a great numbers of staff and students knew him.

“A lot of sadness right now at the school,” he said.

5 year old Chicago area boy shot in domestic shooting

A domestic shooting rampage took the life of a 5 year old Illinois boy on his birthday, along with 3 members of his family:

Matthew Meier was celebrating his 5th birthday by spending the night with his grandparents John and Janice Conta in Oak Lawn. What happened next authorities can't explain.

Sometime overnight, Matthew's uncle John Conta Jr. shot all three dead. He also poured gasoline in the basement and lit it, according to police and fire officials.

Autopsies conducted today determined that all of the people died from shotgun wounds. After shooting his family members, Conta Jr. committed suicide by shooting himself in the face, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. 

One of the first firefighters on the scene Wednesday morning entered the garage of the home in the 9800 block of South 51st Avenue as Conta Jr. pulled the trigger of a shotgun and killed himself too, police said. 

“What made him go into this rampage, I don’t know if we’ll ever know that,” said Oak Lawn Police Division Chief Michael Kaufmann. 

Conta Jr. had spent about a year working as a potato farmer in Russia before moving back with his parents a few months, police said. 

“When he came back, he seemed a little different,” Kaufmann said. “His mental state may have changed.”

17-year old Rhode Island boy shot and killed from outside his home

A 17-year old boy was in his home in Providence, Rhode Island, when a bullet entered his home from outside, killing him.  Police don't think it was a stray bullet.

Providence police say they're looking for suspects in the killing of a 17-year-old boy who was shot inside a home when gunfire apparently came through a window. 

Authorities say the teen was shot at about 9 p.m. Tuesday in a home on Colfax Street. Police say he was in the kitchen when someone opened fire outside. 

Major David Lapatin says investigators do not believe this was a case of stray bullets. They believe the home was targeted. 

The victim's name hasn't been released. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where police say he was pronounced dead at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. 

Two men reportedly were seen running from the scene.

16-year old North Carolina girl implicated in shooting

18-year old Raequan Dupree Rouse was found shot to death in Wilmington, North Carolina.  Police have now arrested 16-year old Dominique Olivia Gibbs for the shooting, which was apparently gang-related.

Rouse was shot in the 600 block of North 10th Street in an act of violence Wilmington Police Department Chief Ralph Evangelous said "clearly was a gang issue." 

A bystander who witnessed the shooting and called 911 said about 15 shots were exchanged. 

The 18-year-old arrived at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in a private vehicle and was pronounced dead a short time later. 

Rouse had been shot 12 times, according to the 911 recording. 

When police officers arrived on the scene, according to the 911 records, they found shell casings in front of 605 S. 10th St. and a blood trail "all the way down the sidewalk and around the corner" of Campbell Street.

One teen killed and three others injured in Chicago shooting

In what may have been a gang-related shooting, a masked gunman opened fire at a McDonald's
parking lot in the Roger's Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois.

When the shooting had ended, a 17-year old boy, Markeyo Carr, was shot in the head an killed, a 15-year old girl was shot several times and wounded, and two 18-year old young men were wounded, one in the arm and one in the lower back.

The shooter got away.

A short time after dozens of witnesses reported hearing at least six gunshots, the teen lay dead, a sheet covering his body as his mother moaned in grief outside yellow police tape in the 6700 block of North Clark. 

Markeyo Carr, of the 6500 block of North Ashland, was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. 

The victims had been in a verbal altercation with another group of people shortly before the masked gunman approached around 3:40 p.m., said Chicago Police Officer Veejay Zala, citing preliminary information. Then the shooter ran off, Zala said. 

A girl, who police said was about 15, was shot several times, and an 18-year-old man, who was shot in the lower back, were taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston. Another 18-year-old man, who was shot in the arm, was treated at Weiss Memorial Hospital. 

“Two of the male victims have documented gang affiliations,” Zala said. 

Juanita Carr-Clay said her nephew, Markeyo, loved to rap. 

“He made little videos at home on his own,” she said. “He was very talented. He rapped about everyday life, reality.” 

She said Markeyo, who attended a nearby high school, had just come from his mother’s house around the corner. “She’d given him a few dollars to get something to eat.” 

Faye McCoy, a retired nurse, was in a storefront across the street when she heard the gunshots. The gunfire ceased, and while rushing to see if she could help, McCoy walked right past the masked gunman. “I didn’t see his face,” she said. 

McCoy, who has lived in the area for more than 13 years, broke down when she saw the slain teen with a bullet wound in the side of his head. “I recognized his face,” said McCoy, who knew Markeyo from working with local youth groups to prevent violence. 

“There was no help for him, he was shot in the temple it looked like, he took his last breath with me standing there . . . Blood was everywhere.” 

McCoy said she didn’t think Markeyo was in a gang, and she lamented the needless death. 

“I have great-grandkids, and it would hurt my heart to see one of them laying out here like that.”

15-year old Michigan boy shot to death

The Detroit Police Department has identified the young man found shot in a vehicle in the 900 block of Glynn Ct. 

7 Action News has confirmed his name is Amir Irvin and that he had just turned 15 years old.

Amir was found shot in the head and slumped over the wheel of an SUV near the Boston-Edison district last Saturday.

He's hospitalized in a coma at Henry Ford Hospital.
Sources tell 7 Action News the shooting happened in the same block as a known drug house, but police say the victim did not have drugs on him or in his car.
Police are looking for a cream-colored Lexus that may be connected to the shooting.

15-year old Chicago boy shot to death by gang members

A 15-year old boy, Miguel Navarrette, was standing beside a car with his family in it, when an SUV drove up.  The men in the car shouted a gang slogan to him, and when Miguel asked "What?" in response, the men opened fire with a shotgun three times, killing the boy, before driving off and hitting a pedestrian with their SUV.

The two men, Martin Miranda and Andres Guerra, both 19, were eventually captured and charged.

Navarette was standing outside a car parked on 30th street near Kedvale Avenue, with two adults and their children in it, when an SUV driven by Guerra drove up, said Steve Campbell, a spokesman for the Cook County state’s attorney’s office. 

Miranda, who was in a rear seat of the SUV on the passenger side, lowered the window and shouted “2-6,” a slogan for the 2-6 street gang, prosecutors said. 

Navarette responded, “What?” Miranda opened the car door and shot Navarette once with a sawed-off shotgun, prosecutors said. Miranda pumped the shotgun and pointed it at the people in the car, then turned back to Navarette, who was lying on the ground, and shot him twice more.

17-year old Florida girl shot and killed by mother in murder/suicide

A 17-year old girl, Chetana Guduru, was shot twice and killed by her mother, Sujatha Guduru, in their Oviedo, Florida home.  The mother then turned the gun on herself, hitting herself in the chest.  She later recovered, however, and was charged for the murder.

Guduru told authorities she shot her daughter, Chetana Guduru, a Seminole High School senior, at least twice in a botched murder-suicide at their Oviedo home on Jan. 27. 

Guduru said she feared that no one would care for her daughter after she committed suicide, police told the Orlando Sentinel. 

Guduru’s attorney, Brian Bieber of Miami, said Jan. 31 that Guduru has been mentally ill for most of the last 20 years and may plead insanity. ... 

Alarmed by [an] e-mail, her brother got to the house about 7:20 a.m. and found them both still alive, according to police. 

Guduru's daughter died a short time later at Orlando Regional Medical Center. Her mother told police she had shot her daughter twice, reported the newspaper. .... 

 Bieber hinted that because of her mental health history, Guduru should not have been able to purchase the .38-caliber revolver, the gun she used, at a local gun shop six days before the shooting. 

But gun restrictions only prohibit ownership of two very narrow groups of mental health sufferers: those who have been committed to a mental institution and those found by a judge or government agency to be a danger to themselves or others. 

Guduru was a single mother who lived in her home with her daughter and mother — Chetana's grandmother — who was at home when the shootings took place but was asleep, police reported.

Another Utah Police officer shoots and kills family including 5-year old and 7-year old, then self

A Utah police officer, Joshua Boren, failed to show up at work, so his coworkers went to his home to investigate, in Spanish Fork, Utah.  They discovered him and four of his family shot to death in the home, apparently at his own hand.

He had killed his wife, Kelly Boren, his 7-year old son Joshua, his 5-year old daughter, Haley, and his 55-year old mother-in-law Marie King, before killing himself.

Police said the five were found dead about 11pm when co-workers became concerned that Boren didn't show up for his night shift as a patrol officer at the Lindon Police Department.

2 South Carolina children killed in domestic shooting

In the third domestic shooting in about as many days, two more small South Carolina children are dead in a domestic murder/suicide:

A family of Jehovah's Witnesses have been found dead in their South Carolina home after what police say was a shocking murder-suicide.

The bodies of a couple - believed to be Sheddrick and Kia Miller - and their two young children were found Wednesday morning scattered throughout the family's two-story home near Irmo. (...) 

Each of the four was shot in the upper body and a handgun, the presumed murder weapon, was found near the father, Wilson said. 

He said initial evidence suggested a domestic disturbance. Investigators are checking records to see if there had been any prior domestic violence calls made to the house. (...) 

Family friend Rachel Hinson, 25, described them as a good family and said the children were both under the age of five.

She told the Observer she had attended bible study at the Millers' home and went to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses with them. 

'It's confusing, and it's not understandable why something like that would happen,' said Hinson, who's grandmother lives near the home.

South Carolina is the worst of all 50 states when it comes to domestic homicides, according to a report by the Violence Policy Center in Washington.

Two Florida teens killed by mother in murder/suicide

Jennifer Berman was facing financial problems, in West Palm Beach, Florida.  So she decided to arm herself and shot her two children before killing herself in her home.

16-year-old Alexander Berman and 15-year-old Jacqueline Berman both died from their wounds.

The victims were identified as Jennifer Berman, who owned the home, and her children, 16-year-old Alexander Berman and 15-year-old Jacqueline Berman. Police went to the residence after being called by Jennifer Berman’s ex-husband, Richard Berman, just after 8 a.m. local time Monday morning. Richard Berman told authorities Jennifer Berman had sent him an email threatening to “do harm” to herself or the children. Jennifer Berman and the two children were found dead inside with gunshot wounds.

No motive has been confirmed for the shootings, but neighbors told WFOR-TV that Jennifer Bowman had been experiencing financial difficulties, and was in danger of losing the home, which originally owned by her mother. The Post reported that the residence has been in foreclosure since June 2010. Richard Berman is also listed as an owner.

9 year old North Carolina boy dies of injuries suffered while riding in his car

A 9 year old boy has died of gunshot injuries suffered while he was riding in his mother's car. From an article:

A boy shot along with his mother in their car last weekend has died of his injuries.

Jaedan Sharpe, 9, son of 31-year-old Lakeisha Holloway, was shot on Jan. 4 in a sports utility vehicle on Lucas Drive. The Durham Police Department on Friday confirmed that the boy had died.

His death marks the first homicide of the year for Durham.

Callers told 911 operators that a shooter, on foot, fired as many as six shots into the vehicle. Holloway then drove a few blocks away to get help. The suspect fled.

Kids should be able to ride in their parents' cars without fear of being shot.

A 17-year old boy, Jacob Middleton, Jr. shot entered his father's home and shot both his father, Jacob Middleton, Sr., and his 2-year old half-sister, Makayla Middleton, in the head, killing them both.  The bodies were later discovered by the girl's mother.

The teen later admitted the killing, stating as his motivation years of abuse by the father.

The younger Middleton admitted to shooting his dad and half-sister, when questioned by investigators early Tuesday, Strain said in a press release. Strain would not say whether investigators found a weapon at the crime scene.

St. Tammany Parish court records show Jacob Middleton Jr.'s parents divorced in 2011.

In 2010, a 22nd Judicial District Court judge granted Middleton's mother a protective order that prevented Jacob Middleton Sr. from going within 100 yards of her home, court records show. In her petition requesting a protective order, Middleton's ex-wife claimed he slapped, choked, shoved and threatened her with bodily harm and with a weapon.

Strain said Monday that deputies been called to the Carnation Street home in the past for domestic violence and mental health issues.

15-year old Florida boy shoots father to death during fight between parents

Christopher Albano came home intoxicated, then started arguing and beating his wife, Jinette Albano.  During the fight, their 15-year old son, Johnny, got the loaded family shotgun and shot his father to death.

This apparently wasn't the first time young Johnny had threatened his father with the family gun.

The couple had financial problems and were facing foreclosure.

Orange County deputies said 15-year-old Johnny Albano shot his father, Christopher Albano, just after 2 a.m. at a home on Sun Dew Road because the man was allegedly beating his wife. 

Jinette Albano called 911 and said her husband came home intoxicated and began hitting her, so her son, Johnny, grabbed a gun and shot him. 

Channel 9 has learned it wasn't the first time the boy got in the middle of a fight between his parents. 

Reporter Jeff Deal got a report from the sheriff's office showing that in 2012, the parents were having a dispute over financial issues and the boy felt the dad was going to hurt his mom, so he picked up a shotgun and pointed it at his father but never fired. 

"My grandson had pulled a gun on him a prior time for that, yes," said the victim's mother, Phyllis Nason. .... 

Deal learned Thursday that the Albanos were having financial difficulty, and their home was in foreclosure. 

Bank of America was trying to foreclose on the home they bought in 2008, claiming the couple stopped making payments in 2011 and still owed around $224,000 on the principal. 

Channel 9 also learned Jinette Albano is being sued by Ally Bank over a claim of $13,000 owed on a luxury SUV that she no longer owns.

16-year old New York boy shot and killed

16-year old Iquan Williams was found shot in the head and killed, in Brooklyn, New York, in an apparent

homicide.

Officials say they found Iquan Williams with a gunshot wound to the head in front of 1856 Prospect Place in Brownsville. Williams was unresponsive and declared dead on the scene by emergency responders. 

The NYPD says an investigation into the shooting is ongoing. 

Community leaders held a rally Sunday morning over Williams' death on the Brooklyn street where he was shot. 

"We as a community can't let this be the norm for 2014," said Tony Herbert, a community leader, in a statement. "We have to stand together and be very clear in saying that this is not going to be another year of senseless gun violence where innocent lives will lost."

13-year old Chicago boy shoots and kills 16-year old cousin over an X-Box

A 13-year old boy had an argument with his 16-year old male cousin, Raymond Galloway, in their apartment in Chicago.  They were arguing about their X-Box game system

After the 16-year old fell asleep, the 13-year old boy got hold of a loaded, unsecured 9 mm handgun and shot the older boy to death.

He later admitted to the shooting.

The teen shot his cousin, Raymond Galloway, in the head at around 5:50 a.m. Sunday while Galloway slept in the teen’s bedroom in the 500 block of East 38th Place, according to Chicago police and Cook County prosecutors. 

The 16-year-old was pronounced dead about 90 minutes later at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to authorities. 

The two boys had been arguing earlier about an Xbox, according to a police report. 

A fired 9mm cartridge was found in the teen’s bedroom and a 9mm semi-automatic handgun was recovered in the apartment, said Tandra Simonton, a spokeswoman for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. 

The 13-year-old told police he shot Galloway, she said. Police said the boy’s mother was present when he made that statement. 

The boy was charged as a juvenile with first-degree murder just after midnight Monday. Judge Stuart Katz ordered him held in custody, Simonton said. 

It’s not clear where the boy got the gun. No adults have been charged.

2 year old Louisiana boy and his father found shot in their home

Another two year old boy has been shot. In this case, his father was also found dead in what appears to be a homicide. From an article:

A father and his 2-year-old child were found shot to death Monday morning at a home in the small town of Abita Springs, officials say. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office tweeted Tuesday morning that an arrest has been made in connection to the double murder.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office began investigating the case after the mother of the child found the two in their home located on Carnation Street in the Abita Nursery subdivision.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office says they are investigating this as a double homicide, but they're waiting on the autopsy results to determine the official manner of death.

Sheriff Jack Strain said the two were killed by "close-range gunfire."

There had been domestic issues in the home as well as reported by law enforcement.

17-year old Louisiana boy shoots and kills mother

A 17-year old boy in Walker, Louisiana, shot and killed his mother, 34-year-old Tamila Wooley.

For two days he returned to the home to care for his siblings as the body lay in the bedroom.
