11-year old Pennsylvania girl shot by father who banged his rifle on the ground during argument

36-year-old Thomas Furin was in his home in Derry Township, Pennsylvania, arguing with his girlfriend over an affair he was having, so he loaded his rifle and threatened her with it.  He then banged the butt of the rifle on the floor.

The rifle discharged, sending a round through the ceiling and into the foot and leg of his 11- or 12-year old daughter in the room above.  The girl underwent surgery.

It happened the day before Christmas eve.

From an article:
According to the police, Furin grabbed a rifle, loaded it then threatened to harm himself if his girlfriend called the police. He then sat on the couch and banged the rifle on the ground, according to investigators.
That’s when the rifle  sent a round into the air, through the ceiling and into the foot and leg of his daughter, who was watching television while sitting on the floor of a bedroom.
Neighbor Georgia Chisolm said, “I could hear Erica screaming her head off, so I ran across the street. They said she was in the bedroom with her sister watching TV with her boyfriend, and they just heard screaming. When we went up there, she was more or less in shock.”
The 11  year-old girl was airlifted to UPMC Children’s Hospital, where she underwent surgery on Monday morning and she will likely remain there for several days.
According to the police, the victim is 11-years-old, however, neighbors say she just celebrated her 12th birthday.
Chisolm said, “Tomorrow is Christmas Eve, and this all has to happen. It’s horrible. I was up all night; I can’t sleep.”

17-year old Pennsylvania boy found with loaded gun at school

A 17-year old boy had been in a fight at the KIPP Charter School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  When his backpack was searched afterward, a loaded .45-caliber handgun was found within.

The boy had, himself, been a shooting victim last year.

From an article:
Lt. John Walker said the teen was involved in a fight with another student Wednesday morning at KIPP DuBois Collegiate Academy at 5070 Parkside Ave.
After the fight was stopped, the other student told security staff the teen was carrying a weapon in his backpack, Walker said.
When staffers asked the student to open his backpack, he refused, and the school called police, KIPP Philadelphia CEO Marc Mannella said. "They were here instantaneously. We were incredibly grateful," he said.
The student did open his backpack for police, who found a .45-caliber handgun inside, Mannella said.
The student was shot last year in Northwest Philadelphia, a law enforcement source said.
Walker said police believe the teenager was hiding the handgun from a parent and had no plans to use it in or around the school.

17-year old Philly boy shot and killed by stray bullet

Bernard "BJ" Jamal Scott, age 17
17-year old Bernard Jamal Scott went to watch a fight at a playground next to his high school, in Philadelphia, along with a large group of 50 other kids.

That's when two men pulled out pistols and fired into the crowd.

Bernard was hit in the stomach by a .22 round, and later died in the hospital.

Another 17-year old boy was hit twice in the buttocks, and an 18-year old boy was grazed.

The gunmen escaped, but a 20-year old man was later arrested as the shooter.

From an article and news video with Bernard's mother:
Bernard Jamal Scott, known to his classmates as BJ, wasn’t involved in the Thursday afternoon altercation at Tustin Playground in the city’s Overbrook neighborhood. The 17-year-old was one of many bystanders from nearby Overbrook High School who flocked to the playground to watch the fight.
“Everybody was following to watch a fight,” a school staff member told the Philadelphia Inquirer. “They tweet each other, they get on Instagram– fight, fight, fight.”
Around 50 spectators had gathered at the playground when the fight took a deadly turn. When one of the fighters began to lose, two gunmen suddenly pulled pistols. Shots were fired into the crowd; three people were hit, including one of the suspected gunmen. Scott was struck in the stomach.
Local business owner Antoine Gardiner was sitting in his truck at a red light at the intersection of Lancaster Avenue and North 59th Street when he heard three gunshots fired in rapid succession. He then noticed Scott “hunched over all by himself.” Gardiner put the seriously injured boy in the back of his truck and rushed toward the nearest hospital.
“Hold on, young buck, hold on, young fellow,” Gardiner told the teen. “Just hold on, you’re going to be OK, just hold on, keep breathing.”
Gardiner told the Inquirer that Scott couldn’t respond. He was groaning loudly, breathing heavily and choking on blood as they arrived at Lankenau Medical Center, a little more than a mile from the site of the shooting. Scott died five hours later. ...

Scott was described as a popular sophomore. He was enrolled in Overbrook’s JROTC program and wanted to be a video game designer when he grew up. Friends said he was quick to lend a helping hand with school work. He was involved in his first serious romantic relationship.

12-year old Pennsylvania child unintentionally shot in the face by 11-year old shooter

12-year old and 11-year children were in an apartment in Camden, Pennsylvania, under the care of a 19-year old, when the younger child got hold of a loaded, unsecured gun and unintentionally shot the older child in the nasal area of his face, luckily not killing him.

From an article:
The bullet wounded the child in the nasal area, but fortunately seems to have avoided hitting his brain.
The 12-year-old was bleeding profusely from the face, a witness told Action News, but was conscious and standing when medical help arrived.
The Camden County Prosecutor's Office said an 11-year-old fired the weapon, but the circumstances remain under investigation.
"We have the 11-year-old and the 11-year-old's parents with us, they are fully cooperative. We're trying to get to the bottom of what happened," Chief Scott Thomson of the Camden County Regional Police.
A 19-year-old relative of the victim was in the apartment with the boys when the shooting occurred.
Police are working to figure out who owns the gun. There are laws in New Jersey that require gun owners to keep guns safe from children, by either keeping it in a safe place or keeping it locked.
Police say, at this time, the shooting appears to be accidental.

Preteen Philadelphia boy and two teen boys threaten and attempt to rob people with handgun

A boy, believed to be between 10-12 years old, pulled out a gun on a Philadelphia street and threatened some young ladies, and later tried to rob a man.

Two teen boys, between 14-16 years old, were seen taking the gun from the boy and later using the gun to threaten other kids.

The gun was either real or a realistic-looking pellet gun.

The three boys involved in the threats and robbery attempts with a handgun
From an article:

Wearing a backpack, red T-shirt and shorts, a young boy was captured on surveillance video trotting up to a group of girls walking in the Tioga section of Philadelphia around 6:30 p.m. Monday.
The boy, believed to be between 10 and 12-years-old, pulls the handgun out of his pants and points it at one of the girls. The young woman can be seen putting her hands in the air as she slowly walks across the street. Moments later, an older boy comes up to the child with a backpack and takes the gun away.
That boy then walks down Ontario Street, drops to one knee and points the gun in the direction of a group of kids walking towards him. He then jumps up and runs towards the group brandishing the weapon.
"He obviously has some kind of handgun. A toy, maybe, doesn't look like a toy," Philadelphia Police Lt. George McClay said. "The other guy is following the boy closely to make sure he gets that gun back, so I would never presume that it's a toy gun."
Twenty minutes later, police say the same boys approached a 27-year-old man. Police say one of the boys then reached into his backpack, pulled out the handgun and said “Hey, buddy.”
The man then ran into a nearby home and called 911 and the youths fled, according to police.
Philadelphia Police say they are searching for three kids involved in the incidents. Their identities are unknown. Police believe the smaller boy is between 10 and 12-years-old and that the two others are between 14 and 16-years-old.

The article did not speculate on how the boy was able to get the gun.

2-year old boy shot and killed and mother injured by father, who killed himself

In Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, Hollie Jo Ayers brought her 2-year old son to the residence of the boy's father, Kenneth Robert Ayers, 52, for a custody exchange when the two got into a fight.

The father then pulled out a gun and shot his ex-wife multiple times, then shot and killed the boy, before shooting the woman once more in the face and shooting at his own mother, missing.  He then drove to a rural area with the boy's body and then shot and killed himself.

Kenneth Ayers had previously had a restraining order against him for domestic violence against his wife, yet was still able to be armed.

Police said the incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. when Hollie Jo Ayers brought the 2-year-old to a residence on Manor Hill Road in Barree Township, Huntingdon County.
A physical altercation occurred between Kenneth Ayers and Hollie Jo Ayers outside the home. During the fight, Kenneth Ayers shot Hollie Jo Ayers, police said, in the right arm and in both legs before he shot and killed his son.
Police said Kenneth Ayers then placed the child’s body in the back of his vehicle.
When Hollie Jo Ayers attempted to retrieve the child’s body, Kenneth Ayers then shot her in the face, according to police. He then shot at his mother, Mary Ayers, missing her.
State College police said they were alerted to be available for assistance when Ayers then fled to Stormstown.
State police said Ayers was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a wooded area adjacent to state Route 550 in Warriors Mark Township.
State College police Lt. Mark Argiro said police had arrested Ayers in 2010 for violating an order of protection against his wife after a domestic incident.
Police said Hollie Jo Ayers was transported to a hospital for treatment Saturday.
Neither Altoona Regional nor Mount Nittany Medical Center had her listed as a patient.

2 year old Pennsylvania boy shoots self with mother's gun

A two year old Pennsylvania toddler found a gun in his mother's purse and shot himself in the face. From an article:
Richard Harris said he was angry when he found out his 2-year-old son got a gun from his mother's purse and shot himself in the face on Thursday night.
“Who leaves loaded guns around with 2- or 3-year-old kids?” Harris, 25, of Centerville, Washington County, said on Friday afternoon. “I have guns in my house, but they're locked up.”
State police said Owen Harris shot himself in the face with his stepfather's gun around 8:50 p.m. at his home along Second Street in Isabella, Luzerne Township.
Trooper Stefani Plume said Owen somehow got the gun, which was in his mother's purse, and shot himself.
His mother and stepfather were home at the time, Plume said.
Owen was taken first to Uniontown Hospital and then flown to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, where he was in critical but stable condition Friday.
Plume said no charges have been filed in the case.
“It appears as though the incident was just a tragic accident,” Plume said in a news release.
Fayette County District Attorney Jack Heneks said the incident remains under investigation.
from triblive.com
Richard Harris said he has “a thousand questions” about the shooting. He said his ex-girlfriend told him she and her husband were asleep when Owen woke up and got the gun.

15-year old Pennsylvania boy uses realistic pellet gun to rob man

Joel Santiago, age 15
A 15-year old boy, Joel Santiago, in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, was caught breaking into a Jeep in town.  He then pulled out a gun and threatened to shoot a man if he didn't hand over his cell phone.  After the robbery, the boy was captured.  The gun turned out to be a realistic-looking pellet gun.

From an article:

The victim of Sunday night's armed robbery in the city said he was standing on his porch at 158 N. Eighth St. at about 9:15 p.m. when he saw a young male going through his neighbor's Jeep.
A moment later, the intruder, who police say is 15, approached Daniel McKimm and told him he had five seconds to give him his cell phone. The boy then began to count down from five.
McKimm, 19, told police he threw his black T-Mobile phone, ran into his home and called police.
A short time later, guns drawn, police took Joel Santiago into custody about six blocks away after they found him lying next to a parked car on Commerce Street between The News-Item and Center City Apartments.
Santiago, of 819 E. Dewart St., Shamokin, was charged as an adult with multiple offenses, including robbery and aggravated assault. ...
Siko said the weapon used by Santiago, which was recovered, is a compressed-air pellet gun that is a replica of a semi-automatic handgun.
"It really looks like a handgun," Siko said. "It weighs the same as a handgun and has all the same features."

14-year old Pennsylvania boy threatens shooting at school

A 14-year old boy in Holland, Pennsylvania, threatened to bring guns and knives to school to kill students and teachers, at Council Rock High School South.  When police searched his home, they found handguns in the plain site in his room.  His parents were also arrested in the case, in part due to drugs and other weapons charges.

From an article:

Northampton Township police arrested a Council Rock High School South student and seized two handguns from his bedroom after he allegedly threatened to kill students at the school.

Police say the ninth-grader was taken into custody Thursday night after a student alerted a parent that the teen verbally made a threat that he would bring a gun and knives into the school Friday morning to kill students and teachers.
Detective Sgt. Bill Klein says two 9 mm handguns were in plain sight in the boy's bedroom when police went to his home. Police say they also found a fake AK 47 in the 14-year-old's room.
Police also arrested the teens parents after they say the mother, Lizabeth Donohoe, let them in the house. Officers reported seeing machetes, weapons that fire pellets and marijuana in the mother's possession. Donohoe was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. The teen's father, Vincent Russo, was charged with resisting arrest and obstructing justice.
Klein says police treated the threat as credible from the start but weren't sure if the 14-year-old had the means to carry out an attack until searching the home. Investigators say it appears no other students were involved in the threats.
“We determined early on that it was credible,” Klein said. “We weren't sure he had the means to carry it out, but in effecting the arrest, we found the two handguns and that certainly ramped things up.”
