The round hit one of his young cousins, a 6-year old girl, in the leg, causing a serious but not life-threatening wound.
From an article:
As Andrew Bonci treated a patient at his Mission chiropractic office Tuesday, a “huge bang” echoed from his waiting room.
Rushing to see what happened, Bonci encountered a 6-year-old girl with a bullet hole in her lower leg and her 14-year-old cousin saying again and again, “I’m sorry.”
“I told him to give me the gun,” Bonci recounted hours after the incident in the 6000 block of Martway Street left the girl hospitalized and her cousin in police custody.
The boy complied and then ran from the office while Bonci’s secretary called 911.
“He was scared,” Bonci said. “He wasn’t crying, but he knew he had erred.”
Police found the teen walking in the area about an hour later and took him to the Mission Police Department for questioning.
Bonci said there was a large hole in the pocket of the teen’s hooded sweatshirt, and it appeared the youth had been carrying the 9 mm handgun in the pocket when it discharged.
Although the girl’s injury was serious, Bonci said it was not life-threatening. An ambulance took her to Children’s Mercy Hospital. Her condition was not available Tuesday night.
The girl’s mother had come to the office with her three children and nephew, Bonci said, and were the only ones in the waiting room at the time. He said the bullet went through the girl’s leg, ricocheted off the floor and into a wall.
“Thankfully no one else was there,” he said.

Deputies say the incident highlights the importance of extreme caution with firearms–especially around children.
“Just the basic firearm safety,” Rick Heinrich of the Saline County Sheriff’s Office said. “Where the parents are with the child and supervising very closely watching what they do and working with them and having that close parental supervision right there with them.”Or, better yet, keep guns away from young children.

His four-year old son found the gun and pulled the trigger. The pellet hit the man's other son, age 5, in the head, penetrating the boy's skull. He is now in the hospital on a ventilator.
From an article:
A 26-year-old man has been arrested following an accidental shooting late Sunday afternoon that has a 5-year-old boy on a ventilator at a local hospital, police said.
The boy was hit in the left side of his forehead when the man’s 4-year-old son picked up a pellet gun left on the dining table and pulled the trigger, Wichita police Lt. Doug Nolte said. The victim’s mother took him to Via Christi Hospital on East Harry, and he was later transferred to the St. Francis campus.
The incident was reported to police at about 5 p.m. The pellet penetrated the boy’s skull, Nolte said.
He may be taken off the ventilator later on Monday because he is showing signs of being able to breath on his own, Nolte added.
The father of the shooter had been out hunting earlier Sunday before returning to the house in the 2300 block of East Winchester, Nolte said. That’s southeast of 63rd South and Hydraulic.
He left the pump-action pellet gun on the dining table, where his son was able to reach it.
“Initially, the family was hesitant to give us a clear story of what happened,” Nolte said.
The father was arrested on suspicion of offenses that include aggravated child endangerment and obstructing arrest.

16 year old Kansas teen arrested after shooting at school bus
A 16 year old Kansas boy was arrested after shooting at a school bus. From an article:
Every gun in the hands of a child must first pass through the hands of an adult.Kansas City police arrested a 16-year-old Ruskin High School student accused of shooting at a school bus after the driver refused to allow him to board on Wednesday. The boy, identified as the shooter by witnesses, was detained by school officials Thursday after he showed up for class. The juvenile prosecutor charged him with attempted assault and armed criminal action. He could face additional charges after police confirm the number of students who were on the bus at the time of the shooting. He remained in the juvenile jail Friday.Police said he tried to board a school bus headed to Ruskin just before 7 a.m. Wednesday at 93rd Street and Cleveland Avenue but was denied by the driver, who didn’t recognize him as a regular rider. He offered to pay the driver, but she refused and forced him off the bus. As the bus drove away, he allegedly fired about five bullets at the bus. The bus was not damaged and no students were hit. The people on the bus were unaware of the shooting. The driver continued to pick up students along her route and dropped them off at the school before learning of the gunfire from police. But students at another bus stop for a different high school saw the shooting, as did some neighbors. Police said the suspect has a relative who lives in the area, but the suspect lives closer to Ruskin. Police weren’t sure if he intended to go to school Wednesday with the gun or whether he was simply trying to hitch a ride to a location close to his home. The school has metal detectors to try to prevent students from bringing weapons into the school. The boy was the second Ruskin student arrested this week in connection with a gun crime. Jackson County prosecutors accused an 18-year-old student of firing at two other students after school let out Tuesday. No one was hurt in that incident.Because of increasing tensions at the school related to the arrests, a few students were asked not to attend Friday night’s basketball game and court warming because school officials thought they might cause trouble. Extra police officers reported to the school.
