12-year old Colorado boy unintentionally injured by 14-year old boy

Two related boys, ages 12 and 14, were together in a motel room where they lived, in Lakewood, Colorado.  That's when they found a loaded gun and started playing with it.  The 14-year old unintentionally fired the gun, hitting and injuring the 12-year old.

A news video and blog commentary.

From a related news article:

According to Detective Ryan Mckone, acting as spokesman for the department, the victim and another 14-year old boy found a handgun in the home. It appears that while playing with the gun, the 14-year-old shot the younger boy.
The boy was transported in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
Mckone said the boys are related and it appears there were adults home at the time.
The adult who owned the gun, who lives at that residence, was not charged.

Every gun in the hands of a child must first pass through the hands of an adult.
