4-year old finds loaded gun in kitchen and shoots himself in the head

A 4-year old Durham, North Carolina boy went into his family's kitchen and found a loaded, unsecured handgun there. The gun went off when he handled it, shooting him in the head.

From the article:

“This was a very unfortunate incident,” Lopez said. “He [the boy] was being curious with a gun that he found. It reinforces the need for gun safety and the proper securing of firearms.”

Lopez said police had made no decision on possible charges.

“At this point, that’s still under investigation,” he said. “We’re looking into it to see if charges are going to arise out of it.”

Every gun in the hands of a child must first pass through the hands of an adult.
