12-year old Colorado boy drops gun and is shot in the abdomen

A 12-year old boy in Fremont County, Colorado, had just finished shooting a .22-caliber revolver when he dropped it.  The gun discharged, striking him in the abdomen.  He underwent surgery and is expected to live.

From an article:

The 12-year-old boy was shooting the .22 caliber gun outside of his Penrose home on County Road 123, according to a Fremont County Sheriff’s news release. After shooting the gun, the boy walked back home, dropped the gun and it discharged. He was hit by a single bullet in the abdomen.
His stepfather was home and took him to St. Thomas More Hospital, where he had surgery on the non-life threatening wound.

Every gun in the hands of a child must first pass through the hands of an adult.
