A young child has been killed in an apparent shooting in Independence.
A dispatcher with the police department confirmed reports of the shooting. Police responded to a home near the intersection of East 20th Avenue and South Scott Avenue at about 3:26 p.m. Radio traffic said at one point that the child had been shot in the chest. The age of the child is believed to be 3 years old, but could not be confirmed at this point.
No other information was available and detectives are still investigating..
