17-year old steals gun from college campus and tries to sell it to 16-year old at school

Two high-school teens in Ellensburg, Washington, were caught with a loaded .22-caliber revolver in school.  The 17-year old had stolen the gun from a car at Central Washington University.  He then took it to school to sell to the 16-year old.  Both are being expelled and charged.

During the investigation, another 17-year old was found to have drugs at school.

From the article:
EHS administrators first became aware of the weapon after a student reported overhearing three classmates discussing the sale of a handgun in a school restroom. During the investigation, staff found a loaded .22-caliber revolver in one of the student’s lockers and confiscated backpacks and personal items belonging to the students. They found marijuana residue and paraphernalia, tobacco products, a small amount of prescription medication and an unidentified pill, Graf and Hansberry said.
The handgun allegedly was stolen during a vehicle prowl on Central Washington University’s campus Sunday night, and one of the suspects brought the gun to school to find a way to sell it, Hansberry said. One of the suspects admitted to committing five vehicle prowls Sunday night, four on CWU’s campus and one in EPD’s jurisdiction, he said.
The police recommended charges of vehicle prowl, theft, theft of a firearm, possessing a dangerous weapon on school property and trafficking in stolen property be filed against the 17-year-old, whom they consider the primary suspect, Hansberry said.
They recommended charges of possessing a dangerous weapon on school property and trafficking stolen property against the 16-year-old student. All of the charges related to the stolen firearm are felonies.
Every gun in the hands of a child must first pass through the hands of an adult.

  1. And this is why it's such a terrible idea for people to carry their guns around in their cars.
