16-year old girl shot in back while running from party shooting

16-year old Alexis Michelle Gutierrez was at a weekend-long party in Lakeland, Florida, when shots were fired. She turned to leave the party, but was shot in the back and collapsed onto a lawn. She was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

From the article:

Neighbor Ann Williams, 65, said there was a house party going on all weekend near the shooting. She said she was in bed when she heard about four shots fired Sunday night.

Williams said she saw a large number of younger people running throughout the streets and saw one girl who had fallen in the lawn next door. She was laying face down on the ground and she told Williams she had been shot.

"I said, ‘Hang in there baby,'" Williams said.

Minnie Washington lives at the home at 1420 W. 10th St. where Gutierrez collapsed. She said she saw the party going on Sunday night. She heard shots being fired outside of her window and saw a large crowd congregating on her lawn.

"I heard a lot of young people and heard someone say ‘I'm shot.'" Washington said.

No suspect or motive was identified in the article, and it didn't speculate as to whether Gutierrez was the intended target.

UPDATE (1/29/12): According to a follow-up article, 18-year old Shavonte Shaquille Carr has been arrested as the shooter.
