9-year old boy accidentally shot by 13-year old sister, parents told victim to lie about it

A 13-year old girl in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania (a suburb of Pittsburg), found a loaded pump-action shotgun in her father's closet and accidentally shot her 9-year old brother in the thigh. The parents apparently told the boy to lie about the circumstances. From the article:

The child's mother and her boyfriend, Shawn Moore, told police the boy was shot near a garbage bin as he was taking out the garbage, Cifrulak said.

"Our investigation revealed that that wasn't the truth," Cifrulak said. "We found blood inside the apartment."

The father apparently is in custody for violating probation by having the gun.

Every gun in the hands of a child must first pass through the hands of an adult.
