From the article:
A 2½-year-old boy was accidentally shot in the chest at a home in north St. Louis County this morning by his father, who then rushed the boy to a hospital.

The boy, Anthony Sanders, was in critical but stable condition at St. Louis Children's Hospital, police said.
The shooting happened in the 400 block of Midlothian Road, which is east of Lilac Avenue in the Glasgow Village area of St. Louis County. Police recovered several weapons inside the home.
The father, who was questioned at the hospital, told detectives he accidentally discharged the gun, police said. He has not been taken into custody, and police have classified the shooting as accidental.
....
Letoya Langston, 35, of Florissant, said she is a friend of Anthony's father and spent time with the family Thursday evening to see the family's new home. She said they had just moved in about a week ago.
"He loves his kids," she said. "I'm just in shock."
She added, "Maybe this will be a lesson for people with guns."
