17-year-old killed by farmer who thought he was shooting at coyotes

17-year-old Brandon Spangler of Flushing, Michigan was visiting his father in Indiana when he went with his father and three brothers to play paintball on a farm in Shelby. While they were unloading gear from the car Brandon was shot in the shoulder. Brandon was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man who owned the farm, Jason Bagley, told authorities he thought he was shooting at a pack of coyotes. He said he had been having trouble with coyotes and when he heard a rustling in the trees he got his rifle and fired multiple times into the woods. Police are still determining whether Bagley will face charges.

Funeral services for the high school senior will be held on Wednesday. Brandon's mother described her son as "a wonderful son, amazing brother, cousin, friend. Just an all around great kid."

  1. Obviously the farmer needs to do some prison time for reckless endangerment and manslaughter.
