10-year old accused of killing his father's girlfriend in Georgia

Apparently this 10-year old boy "just lost control" and shot his father's girlfriend, Jennifer Albright, "who was like a mother to him" while she was changing her baby's diaper, and did so with a shotgun he had just received as a gift for Christmas.

From the article (see also news video):
They say the 10-year-old boy first said the shooting was an accident; he later admitted he shot Albright on purpose. It is not clear if the boy understood the potential finality of that gunshot.

In Tuesday's hearing, Assistant District Attorney Pittman Morris shared the state's theory of what happened. Morris says Albright was changing her baby daughter's diaper when something upset the 10-year-old. He allegedly retrieved the shotgun he'd been given for Christmas and shot Albright.
Every gun in the hands of a child first had to go through the hands of an adult.
