9-year old girl and 13-year old boy wounded in robbery shootout

A 9-year old girl and her 13-year old brother were injured by stray bullets during a shootout between their father and a couple who tried to rob them.

The incident started when a man and his girlfriend were working on their car in the neighborhood by Lafayette Square and were approached by a male and a female robber, police said.

At some point, the male robber punched the man in his driveway, who then ran into his home to grab a handgun, police said.

The two exchanged gunfire up the street and around the corner, Hutto said. The children were with their mother, and both were struck with one of the stray rounds, he said.

Both handguns were recovered, and the men were taken into custody, police said.
