The 12-year-old, however, faces a possible felony charge that carries a penalty of up to 18 months detention in a juvenile facility. He told police he took a semiautomatic handgun and a loaded magazine from his grandfather's house and brought it to school because he felt threatened and suicidal.
A new report released by Mesa police this week states that the boy lives in a home that had been visited by Arizona Child Protective Services before the Jan. 18 incident. CPS is investigating allegations of abuse of the boy's older brother by their stepfather, the police report states.(the article also refers to an accidental shooting where a boy fired a gun that he brought on a school bus, which we originally reported about HERE).
