14-year old Missouri boy killed by 15-year old plays with gun

Jason Gregory Spurling, age 14
14-year old Jason Gregory Spurling was in his home with two friends, in West Plains, Missouri, when they were playing with a loaded, unsecured gun.  The gun went off in the hands of Jason's 15-year old friend.  The round hit Jason in the chest, killing him.

Two adults were home at the time of the shooting.

From the article and news footage:
Police believe Spurling was shot and killed accidentally by his 15 year old friend.

"This pistol that was used, we are trying to locate where it came from.  Obviously, a 15 year old usually doesn't have a firearm.  We are trying to find out where it came from. If the gun was stolen or not.  At this point we have talked to a few people, but it's really hard to determine where it came from," said Shawn Rhoads with West Plains Police Department.

Police say the teens were playing with the gun and then Spurling was accidentally shot once in the chest.  Detectives say there were two adults home at the time. One immediately called 9-1-1 while the other performed C.P.R.
Every gun in the hands of a child must first pass through the hands of an adult.
