From the article:
Bach, a mechanic, spoke exclusively with CBS12. Bach is also an Iraq war veteran who knew what he had to do before rescuers arrived.
"After the gunshots, I walked out to the road and saw the boy laying on the sidewalk," said Bach.
Bleeding from the head, the boy needed help quickly. Bach stopped the blood with anything he could find. He didn't hesitate.
"That's what we're supposed to do right? Went to him and started giving him medical attention. All the training I had in the military just kicked in," said Bach.
Steve says the boy was awake but likely unable to comprehend what just happened.
"He was trying to talk to me. Trying to get up. Basically I kept him calm. By the time I got up and looked around, all the police officers and detectives were here. It was quick," said Bach..
