2-year old boy finds gun in father's closet and shoots himself

A 2-year old Lehigh Acres, Florida boy was playing in his parents' closet when he found a loaded, unsecured .40 caliber pistol and shot himself, wounding himself in the lower abdomen and leg.

From the article:
The toddler's father, Karl Graf, told deputies he was cooking dinner while his son was in his bedroom. He said he heard a loud boom and discovered his son covered in blood.
"The gun went off and his dad ran in the room," [the boy's uncle] Honeycutt said.
The boy had gunshot wounds to the stomach and the upper leg, reports said.
Though the toddler is in serious condition at Lee Memorial Hospital, Honeycutt said the boy was doing much better Wednesday.
The 2-year-old was in surgery Wednesday morning.
"They said it went in and right back out and grazed his leg. It nicked his bowel," Honeycutt said.
While Lee County deputies continue to investigate, Jacob's family is praying for his recovery.
"Lock your guns up please. Don't just leave them laying around. I mean, this is a 2-year-old. You never think it could happen to someone you know then it happens to your family," Honeycutt said.
Every gun in the hands of a child must first pass through the hands of an adult.
