16-year old boy brings gun to school and accidentally fires it; sweep finds two more guns

A 16-year old Harper Woods, Michigan boy brought a .9 mm handgun to school in his backpack.  When he tried to remove it from his backpack to show it off, it accidentally discharged, but luckily didn't harm anyone.  When police arrived and did a sweep of the school, they found two more guns in other kids' lockers, including a .40 mm and a .22 mm, one of which was loaded.  A 13-year old and two 15-year olds were arrested for these.  All were boys.  Alcohol, knives, and drugs were also found in lockers.  In all, five boys and one girl were arrested.

From the article and footage:
“We’ve had very few incidents over here. It’s a brand new facility, a gorgeous school, and great kids,” said Chief Burke.  “Something like this brings home ... parents you need to check your kids.  If kids know their friends have guns they need to tell somebody.”
Five male students and one female student were taken into custody. Some of the students were questioned and released. Others were taken to a youth home. Each of the cases are believed to be separate from one another.
“We have a very strong responsibility to keep kids safe here at all times,”  said Harper Woods School Superintendent Todd Biederwold.  “Unfortunately we didn’t meet that expectation today. In order to meet that expectation we have to do our job and kids and families have to do their jobs as well. We have to work together to keep our schools safe.”
School officials will be looking into ways to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

Every gun in the hands of a child must first pass through the hands of an adult.
