16-year old shot in Tennessee under suspicious circumstances

A 16-year old boy was dropped off at a Clarksville, Tennessee, hospital with a shooting injury to his back.  But circumstances seem suspicious.

From the article:

According to the teenager, he had spent the night with some friends, and he said he was shot in the lower back when he was walking on Old Ashland City Road. The victim said he doesn't know who shot him, and police cannot find a crime scene.
After he was shot, Clarksville Police said the 16-year-old was driven to the E.R. at Gateway Medical Center by two unknown men in a silver Mitsubishi. A paramedic saw the victim get out of the Mitsubishi as it pulled up to the emergency room, and then the vehicle left the hospital.
The victim was flown to Nashville by LifeFlight where he underwent surgery. He is now in stable condition.
