16-year old Derica Patterson shot in drive by shooting in Mississippi

16-year old Derica Patterson and four other people were in a car in north Mississippi on Christmas day on a busy highway.

(initial article and news video)

Suddenly another car drove up and, using an assault rifle, shot up the car. Derica was killed instantly. Four others in Derica's car were wounded, one seriously.

Now, two young men have been taken into custody for the killing, and a third is at large. One of the shooters was a 16-year old, Christopher K. Collins. Corey Albright, 31, is in custody, and Rico R. Fleming, 22, also known as Rico Pool, is at large.

(A related article, stating that 16-year old Christopher Collins is from Tennessee.)

  1. Sad loss of a remarkable athlete, and determined and intelligent student. I taught her two years and miss her daily. Senseless and devastating.

  2. Thank you for commenting, Mrs. Day. No words can adequately express the sadness you must feel. I've lost a young friend, too. As you can see from this blog, there are too many cases like this. I hope you and your community can take action to help reduce such shootings.
