According to the video, this brings the number this year to 8 guns and 22 BB & Pellet guns.
The students face expulsion if convicted and the drivers are facing notational charges. Young said it's not usual to see a spike in such incidents later in the year, but because of the warm weather students are spending more time outdoors.
"What parents can do to help us is start talking to your kids. Take an inventory of their rooms, take an inventory of their backpacks, their vehicles, anything they have access to," Young said at a press conference.
He said other local police agencies have been notified about what happened this week
All of the last school year, School District Police seized 15 guns and 34 bb and pellet guns.
Of course, parents can do more than talk to their kids and take inventory. They can also make sure their guns are locked and unloaded, or, better yet, removed from their homes entirely.
Every gun in the hands of a child must first pass through the hands of an adult.
